Hi! Welcome to our blog. This crochet blog is designed to offer you a wealth of information about all aspects of crochet. More than anything, our hope is to inspire you to enjoy the craft in new ways, appreciating all of the diverse aspects that this “hobby” has to offer. I hope you’ll take the time to poke around and see all that there is to see here.
Melissa has been crocheting for close to twenty years and loves making amigurumi and designing patterns. She specializes in making beginner patterns that help reinforce the basics of crocheting. In her free time, she can usually be found out in the garden or playing her ukulele!
A life long crocheter and knitter, Hannah is a creative person who enjoys designing their own patterns while having deep appreciation and love for timeless designs. Hannah’s first official job was in a yarn store as a teenager and even now they regularly knit and crochet for friends and commissioned pieces. When not busy with fiber, Hannah enjoys all things coffee, reading, hiking and spending time with their kid.
Kelsey has been a crafter since childhood and enjoys crochet, sewing, and any craft she can make with her children. She loves learning new techniques and sharing what she learns along the way. Kelsey someday hopes to be someone’s crafty grandmother, crocheting afghans and drinking entire pots of coffee.
This crochet blog was started in 2011 by Kathryn Vercillo, originally under the name Crochet Concupiscence. At the time it was common for blogs to post multiple times per day and this blog had that format – sharing four short news-style crochet posts each day. Over time, as craft blogging developed and the blog grew along with it – the site switched to emphasize longer, more in-depth, helpful crochet articles.
Kathryn’s particular emphasis was on the heath benefits of crochet. She says, “I re-discovered crochet in my late twenties, when I was going through a really difficult bout of depression. It helped me to heal, connected me to a great community and became a key part of my life. I started this blog to celebrate crochet and to do my part to help connect and honor all of the designers, crafters, writers and makers who are linked to crochet in some way.”
This blog was used as a platform to research how crochet heals and to share stories about that from a wide range of people. It led to the books Crochet Saved My Life, which is about the mental and physical health benefits of the craft, Hook To Heal which offers 100 Crochet Exercises For Health, Growth, Connection, Inspiration and Honoring Your Inner Artist, and Mandalas for Marinke, an outgrowth of a collaborative crochet project launched here on this blog.
In autumn 2017, Kathryn sold this crochet blog to Brad Buchanan. The best way to keep abreast of her work is to support her through Patreon. You can also follow her on Instagram @kathrynlucillevercillo and on Facebook at Crochet Saved My Life.
